COURAGE IN THE MINISTRY
There are few elements of character more useful or practical than Christian courage. Its springs (roots) are in God. Physical strength and mental ability, may play some part in courage, but not nearly as much as the Biblical characteristics of faith, love, obedience, and prayer. This courage - Courage to want to follow God and to try to follow God - is an essential qualification for the ministry, whether the place of ministry is at home or on a mission field.
When Peter and John offered their prayer for help after the Day of Pentecost, it was burdened with the petition to God, a request that God would grant to them courage, so that with all boldness they might speak His word.
St. Paul boasts of his boldness of speech as though it were a great advantage. Persons interested in the things of God seek to know what God the Lord may say unto them. Whatever inspires confidence as to the authority of the speaker, whatever convinces the hearer that what he hears is from the Holy Ghost, Courage is that which gives assurance and stimulates faith.
When people heard [the Apostles] Peter and John, they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and they took knowledge of them - they stopped and noticed - that they had been with Jesus. This boldness has been a characteristic of the long line of eminent disciples of Jesus who have battled for the right until these present times. Different phases of society in church history have shaped the efforts of the bold men in accordance with the evils of the time.
The effort however, has been to stand for what is right (some days being more successful than others). We are by no means exempt in our day from the evils that require Christian courage. Possibly never before was self-indulgence, or the allurements of the world stronger, than now. We live in an age of great possibilities. God has put it into the power of his church to extend his kingdom to the ends of the earth. The spiritual fields are ready for harvest. Nothing lies in the way of the grandest, spiritual achievements for God. But instead, getting honor, position, pleasure, wealth, fame, these are too often the pursuits [the detours] of those who have given themselves to Christ with the most solemn vows.
What is wanted is personal ministry competent to cope with these tendencies —men with courage and conscience to break down the modern idolatry of coveteousness,- often known as "consumerism" to restore among God’s people true respect for the Lord.
There are many young men capable of courage; they are wanted. There are others, however, who fear the peer pressure of society or of people, who count the cost of courage according to man’s arithmetic (human calculations) rather than by the real equations of God’s genuine providence.
Young men who Want to make the wrong decisions - are not able to be used of God. They smooth the slippery way to self-destruction, and occupy places that they never truly fill.
Societies need those who shall exalt the place of God’s missions (of kindness and courage) in the hearts of God’s people; men, powerful to awaken the spirit of prayer; ingenious to select and inspire the choicest and most able of the younger generation, for the work of Christ in the real world; courageous to call for self-sacrifice and learning the ways of God where opposition or indifference to giving for missions abounds.
Men who make the effort to serve God will not fail either for place or influence. They may be compelled to contend and wrestle with worldliness in the midst of the thick and hurry of this all-absorbing age, but those who take on this personal challenge will be fed with hidden strength from the unseen God of the Universe. However hot or difficult the conflict, God according to his mighty word - will be with them always.

Do I realize what my personal state of preparation will be, within me, when Islam becomes the Dominant Religion in the United States, as it is already in Europe, and how I will personally be required to defend my Faith, by argument and persuasion, using knowledge of the Bible and of History and of Christianity, and that God will rightly hold me accountable ?
In view of these facts, should I try to set aside more time for the study of the Word of God, and more time for the study of History and the true history of the Christian Church, and to learn about how other Christians in the past, actually learned to have and to gain GREAT and genuine spiritual strength ?
If no one reaches out to help prepare me for the coming challenges, whose job is it STILL for me to be prepared to answer these challenges and questions ?
