What is Dynamic Equivalence ?
dynamic equivalence - nida - and kjvo
Not Dynamic, Not Equivalent either
We have to understand what Dynamic Equivalence (Nida) involves. the actual concept of "dynamic equivalence" has nothing to do with pure translation work.
In order to understand "Dynamic Equivalence" we have to define the terms. If Dynamic Equivalence simply means the best words in a language that accurately reflect the words in the Greek Manuscripts [the right ones] of the Bible, then that would be fine.
But usually, Dynamic Equivalence is a term which is "front-loaded". It comes with its own set of preconceived notions to begin with. This is done, not out of a desire for accuracy, but because Eugene Nida (and friends) (Nida was the originator of the concept of "Dynamic Equivalence") wanted to make sure that the Textus Receptus would continue to be dethroned as the accurate Bible that it is, and that it would be replaced with the greatly inferior & false Nestle-Aland Greek Text.
Therefore, to think of "Dynamic Equivalence" as being either truthful or accurate is wrong and misguided. Textual Critics are often misled because even they do not understand what they are being taught, and what has been omitted from their training.
Nida's theory of Dynamic Equivalence was contrived to give people the False understanding that the Nestle-Aland Greek Text (corrupt) was an exigetically sound New Testament. This was false. The information was false, the work (of the N-A) was poor, the manuscripts were corrupt, and the result is that the Nestle-Aland is not a representation of scripture, but a departure from it. There are thousands of changes that were made in the Nestle-Aland Text that are nowhere in the Textus Receptus. So to answer your question, do not go confusing what Nida called "Dynamic Equivalence" with serious translation.
Nida's work was 1. Not "Dynamic" in any sense of the word. And 2. It was not "equivalent" either.
A translation which is the Equivalent of the KJV is a translation that is going to be the same text (in another language) as the Textus Receptus is in Greek or as the King James is in English.
Isn't that impossible to do, on a realistic basis ?
No, not at all. It starts out with three pre-requisites, of which the first two are no longer practiced - even for Bible translation work:
1. The Translators must be saved. They must know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior
2. They must use the Greek Text of the Textus Receptus. This is nothing more than the original Greek Text that all protestants around the world used. There are ALREADY many many translations in foreign languages where the Translators ALREADY used the Textus Receptus for translation into another language. (You can see our version in Chinese here, for example).
3. They must be linguistically competent and fluent, first in the Koine (Biblical) Greek, and then also fluent in the language in which they want to translate.
Many modern translations of the Bible into foreign languages are actually producing poor scholars and worse translations, because many of them are no longer using the Textus Receptus from which to translate. If they don't, the finished product will not be the Word of God. Remember it is the Greek Texts of the Nestle-Aland that are the Innovations. They were made up from false and errant Greek Manuscripts that the Christian Church had Previously rejected as false and wrong translations.

WILLOWCREEK CHURCH & BILL
HYBELS’ THEOLOGY
Biblical Christianity or the Church of Laodicea?
By James Sundquist
There is an epidemic movement which has infected even the most conservative denominations and seminaries, which began in the United States more than a decade ago, and is now being manifested throughout the Church globally. One of the founders of this "seeker-friendly" movement is Bill Hybels, Senior Pastor of Willowcreek Church in the Chicago area.
