BackStabbed:
Law of the Sea
- Conservatives denounce GOP & Bush Administration support of treaty giving
U.N. Sovereignty
Feb 19/05 - Leaders of the conservative movement
yesterday openly broke with the Bush administration over the Law of the Sea
Treaty, which they say sacrifices U.S. sovereignty.
They warned Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, Tennessee
Republican, and other members of his party in Congress that their continued
backing of the treaty could cost them the support of conservative voters.
"The conservative movement is opposed to the
Law of the Sea Treaty and to the administration's support of the
treaty," American Conservative Union Chairman David A. Keene said at a
press conference, held during a break in sessions on the second day of the 32nd
annual Conservative Political Action Conference.
Sen. James M. Inhofe, Oklahoma Republican
and chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, which has held
hearings on the treaty, said that if ratified, the treaty could force the United
States to concede too much power to the United Nations.
He also said it could undermine America's ability to
protect itself from terrorist attack by restricting shipboard inspections.
The treaty gives the United Nations power to regulate
and settle disputes among member countries regarding all aspects of the seas'
resources and the uses of the ocean, including navigational rights, territorial
sea limits and conservation and management of the marine environment.
Law of the Sea Tribunal Already Actively affecting lives
BBC -Dec 3/01 - A United Nations maritime tribunal has rejected a bid by Ireland to block plans to expand operations at Britain's Sellafield nuclear plant.
The Irish Government had tried to challenge the decision to allow the controversial plant to start producing mixed plutonium and uranium oxide (Mox) fuel.
It ( The Irish Government ) argued that the £470m development, on the Cumbrian coast opposite Ireland, broke international laws on sea pollution and posed safety and security concerns.
Dublin wanted Britain to be ordered to suspend Mox operations until an international arbitration tribunal was established to resolve the dispute.
But judges at the UN International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg rejected the legal challenge on Monday.
The tribunal ruled that "the urgency of the situation did not require the prescription of the provisional measures as requested by Ireland".
LOST - Law of the Sea Treaty Update 2005
Feb 24/05
John Newby - In years past, it seemed controversial political issues came along every few years and by watching our government vote, we could determine how socialistic (a polite or non-offensive word for communism) our government had become. As our government and their media sidekicks move into the fast lane towards socialism and reduction of freedoms, these critical issues no longer come along every few years. These critical issues are now being pushed and voted on monthly and even weekly. But in our “what’s in it for me” society, most voters could care less and won’t care until the lack of freedom knocks down their front door. So, for you in this category, go back to your couch, grab your root beer & chips and watch the latest sports prima donna’s dunk and tackle, pop singers gyrate on MTV or any other mindless activity that numbs your brain. For the rest of you that care, here’s what your government is up to.
The LOST that I’m referring to is the “Law of the Sea Treaty” currently being considered by our conservative government machine. Before we get into great detail about this treasonous legislation, I’d like to start a weekly tradition entitled the ‘dunce-cap’ award; it will go to the voters working the hardest to shackle their freedoms each week. After sifting through the thousands of qualified entries, I’ve decided the voters of the great state of Indiana are this week’s recipients. Not only did they vote for Senator Richard Lugar, the big push behind the LOST legislation, but they show remarkable consistency in doing so for five consecutive elections. The movie title “Dumb and Dumber” comes to mind. Now, in 600-700 words, I can’t offer a complete synopsis of the disaster this treaty would be for the United States, but let’s review a few of the highlights (better described as lowlights) of this treasonous bill.
1) Under LOST, the UN agency titled Seabed Authority will take control of nearly 70% of all the earth’s surface and natural resources.
2) The Seabed Authority would be organized in a pattern similar to the General Assembly model of one vote per nation, thus giving voting power to a block of third world nations that haven’t contributed one viable solution to the world’s problems since Adam.
3) With the above votes, the Seabed Authority could impose worldwide taxes as they see fit to continue their UN mandated mission of sucking every dollar out of the Americans pockets that they can get away with. (That’s quite a sum; American voters seem to have a love affair with those picking our tax pockets as long as they do it consistently.)
4) It will reduce the effectiveness of the US Navy while enabling countries such as China to enhance their military might throughout the globe.
5) Will allow the UN to impose levies and production levels on fishing, drilling and mining among other things. In addition, they will be able to conduct their kangaroo courts punishing whoever steps out of line.
Bush and the Politics of the Law of the Sea Treaty - January 2005
Jan 25/05 - For the United States to be able to exercise influence "in freedom's cause," however, it must preserve the sovereignty and wherewithal to act, despite predictable opposition from despot-dominated U.N. councils — in league with others if possible, unilaterally if necessary.
Incredibly, even as Mr. Bush prepared his call for an
American foreign policy that would resist tyrants — not rely on organizations
they and their friends effectively control — his administration was being
committed to the ratification "as soon as possible" of a treaty that
would give unprecedented power to just such an organization.
The treaty in question is the
U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea (better known
as the Law of the Sea Treaty, or LOST). It was drafted more than 20 years ago at
the behest of Soviet Bloc and "nonaligned" nations as the centerpiece
of their so-called "New International Economic Order," a scheme to
transfer wealth from the industrialized to the developing world.
Ronald Reagan objected to LOST's creation of a
supranational agency to govern the world's oceans at the expense of U.S.
sovereignty and America's capacity to utilize and assure freedom of the seas.
When American concerns were ignored or simply voted down, he refused to sign the
accord.
The treaty has not improved with age, despite claims by
its supporters that Mr. Reagan's objections have subsequently been addressed.
For example, it still allows an international
organization for the first time to collect revenues from U.S. taxpayers as the
price for exploiting the world's seabeds.
LOST also would still infringe in significant ways on
the movement and activities of U.S. military and intelligence operations at sea.
It still would oblige the U.S. to transfer sensitive data and technology to
potentially hostile nations.

The United Nations' decades-old scheme to set up an international authority to
tax
Americans at the same time they take control of over 70 percent of the Earth's
surface -- the Law of the Sea Treaty -- is getting a lot of attention in
Washington. That
attention is what we fought to achieve, and it is exactly what the
internationalists behind
Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) wanted to avoid. They hoped to sneak this
flawed treaty
through the Senate while no one was looking.
Since our last update, March 16, 2004, both the Senate Committee on Armed
Services
and the House Committee on International Relations have held hearings on LOST.
Congressman Ron Paul and 13 of his House colleagues sent a letter to Senate
Majority
Leader Bill Frist pointing out threats to American sovereignty and national
security
problems contained in this "terribly flawed treaty." The
Bookings Institution sponsored a briefing.
The gloves are off! Pro-LOST forces are fighting back with display ads in
Capitol Hill
newspapers urging ratification of LOST. Pro-LOST lobbyists have picked up
their pace
in the halls of Congress. House members who favor LOST have circulated a
letter
urging quick ratification by the Senate, and the pro-U.N. Citizens for
Global Solutions
(formerly known as the World Federalist
Society) is pushing hard for ratification.
Hearing first hand what the pro-LOST forces said in their formal presentations,
as well
as overhearing some "off-the-record" comments, I can tell you that
they are not happy.
They expected the Senate to have quietly ratified LOST by now. They never
expected
Americans who live outside Washington's Beltway to know what was going on and
get
in their way.

Law Of The Sea Treaty Threatens Sovereignty
By Paul M. Weyrich
November 24, 2004
The election may be over and conservatives have won, but that does not mean we can relax. We still need to stand guard to protect our nation's sovereignty. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted in February to send the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) to the Senate Floor. Fortunately, conservatives and other defenders of American sovereignty derailed the effort to rush the Treaty to the Senate floor for a quick vote on ratification. Next year, with a new Congress, the forces in favor of the Treaty would like to have LOST ratified by the Senate. If they try to make their wish become a reality, conservatives must rise up in defense of our country and its sovereignty.
The grassroots of the conservative movement have a very important role to play by exercising continued vigilance. National conservative leaders -- Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK), Phyllis Schlafly of Eagle Forum, Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy and myself -- are starting to speak out now on this vital issue. So is Dr. Peter Leitner of George Mason University, author of Reforming the Law of the Sea Treaty. We intend to do our part to fight against ratification of this sovereignty-destroying Treaty. But it is your voice that your State's U.S. Senators and U.S. Representative will heed when deciding just where they stand on LOST.
Remember: Arrayed against the defenders of sovereignty who oppose LOST are a collection of corporate and environmental and governmental interests --including the United States Navy and Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The backers of this Treaty -- the big corporations and the environmentalists -- have the money to wage an expensive campaign in the hope that they can persuade the Senate to ratify it. It should come as no surprise to conservatives that The New York Times published an editorial in late August urging quick ratification of LOST, criticizing those who are defenders of our nation's sovereignty as a noisy group of misguided gadflies.
In 1982, President Reagan decided LOST was a Treaty that would not be in our country's best interest to ratify, primarily because of his concern regarding the provisions governing deep seabed mining. However, our concern should extend well beyond that. LOST would have our country surrender its sovereignty on the seas to a body called the International Seabed Authority (ISA), whose membership is stacked in favor of Third World nations. If the Senate ratifies LOST, we will have given the ISA the authority to determine what rights our country will have to mine minerals located on the ocean floor and the right to tax their extraction. More than that, we also will have granted the ISA the right to regulate our transfers of military technology, even the right to determine in what situations our Navy can stop a vessel.
Conflicts involving LOST will not be settled by our country's courts but by an international tribunal.
Thanks to Frank Gaffney and Dr. Leitner, attendees at the strategy luncheon I chair every Wednesday when Congress is in session, I learned quite early that the State Department was very interested in pushing this Treaty through the Senate and that it had a willing accomplice in Chairman Lugar. Lugar's reputation for fairness was tainted by the actions of his staff on the Foreign Relations Committee because the initial hearing on LOST was stacked in favor of its proponents. Dr. Leitner offered to testify on why the Treaty is against our interests only to be turned down by the staff. Fortunately, the conservative movement became galvanized, including the grassroots, after Frank Gaffney and I started speaking and writing about LOST. Senator Inhofe was able to convince some of his well-placed colleagues that other Senate and House Committees needed to take a much closer look at this Treaty.

Microsoft XP Spying on You
Microsoft has programmed Windows XP to contact other computers and transfer information from the user's computer to the other computers:
a) If you have only three DVDs that your children watch sometimes on your home machine that is always connected to the Internet (through a broadband connection), you may not care that Microsoft knows when they watch them. If you seldom use the Windows XP help facility, you may not care that Microsoft is able to know the level of expertise of the people who use your computer.
However, if you are using Windows XP in a large corporation or a government, the fact that another organization believes that it can gather data from you may be completely unacceptable.

The Microsoft article tells how to disable the hidden downloading. However, the disabling is very time-consuming. Also, Microsoft has a history of using defect fixes and security fixes to change the operating system settings. This means that all the settings would need to be checked after every defect fix or security vulnerability fix.

In Christianity, being an "extremist" means being an extremist in Love.
This does not mean that all Christians succeed. But they will be a lot closer to success for having tried,
than if they had not made the effort at all.
People become like the Gods (God) that they worship.
Those that worship a God of Love become more loving.
Those that worship Gods of Conquest and Forced Conversions (Islam) become less tolerant,
and more hateful and violent. Whatever the characteristics of Allah, few have ever described him as
a God of Love, or Unconditional Love.

Christian Conversions - According to the Bible - Can NEVER be forced.
Any Conversion to Christianity which would be "Forced" would NOT be recognized by God. It is in
His True and KIND nature, that those who come to Him and choose to believe in Him, must come to Him OF
THEIR OWN FREE WILL.
Don't Let anyone tell you that Christians support Forced Conversions.
That is False. True Christianity is NEVER forced.

Indeed, the growth of the middle class-one of the underpinnings of democracy in this country-has been reversed. By government action.
Taken as a whole, these are results of the rules that govern the game:
Question: Is your Point of View "Right" or "Left" ?
We don't care about labels. We care about truth and facts, and believe that many sides have many pieces of the political truth about what is happening in the world. We are against large Multinational corporations that harm the people, impovrish countries, and destroy the middle classes. Our point of view is in believing in the Average American, and in the Integrity of the American Worker. We support the Middle Class, and government that stays out of the way of the People, and that will stop expanding and expanding and expanding its power, and its reach and its goals. We cannot be in favor of multinational and globalist agreements that are designed either to hurt America or the American Worker or the Family (meaning Dad, Mom and the kids) - or that are designed to continue to harm and erode American Sovereignty because the politicians find the will of the people to be something which is "inconvenient".
There is no "one piece" of legislation that can be opposed. Most of them have to be opposed and to be opposed continuously. It is a long process. But liberty - a small amount of it - is all that remains with which to fight. If we do not use it to stand up, there will soon be no liberty left, and no country either.
