THE NEW UNHOLY WAR AGAINST CHRISTIAN FREE SPEECH
DON'T YOU DARE USE CHISTIAN TERMS!

When CBS was threatened with a fine by the Federal Communication
Commission for showing Janet Jackson’s exposed breast during their 2004
SuperBowl broadcast, Leslie Moonves, president of CBS and new co-COO of Viacom,
said that CBS would sue the FCC for limiting their freedom of speech.
Freedom of speech is an oft-repeated shibboleth in our society to protect
everything from child pornography to the hate speech of the Ku Klux Klan and
many other anti-social organizations. The only speech that seems to be forbidden
is redemptive Christian speech that offers the Good News of the salvation
available to everyone through Jesus Christ.
Recently, a good friend said, “If you’re going to
lecture, don’t use Christian terms – people don’t want to be associated
with fundamentalist Christians. . . or any Christians for that matter.”
Christians have been reviled and persecuted in large numbers ever since the
Coliseum in Rome, all the way up to the rapes and killings in the Sudan, East
Timor, Chechnya, and around the world. We collect articles on Christian
persecution; they appear daily in major news organizations. The persecution in
the Sudan is instructive – the latest article in the Los Angeles said that the
Muslims break the women’s legs, rape them, and, if they’re pregnant, they
cut open their bellies to take out the child. This violence is not directed at
other Muslims; it is directed at Christians.
A recent survey showed that Protestants might be a minority in the next few
years in the United States. The number of atheists is increasing. Why? Christians
have been intimidated.
The First Amendment protects our speech too, though. If Muslims, atheists, and
Darwinists are free to talk about their points of view, we should be, too. A new
organization led by Don Feder, Jews Against Christian Anti-Defamation, is trying
to stand for the right of Christians to express their deeply held beliefs.
