STUTTGART (ANS) -- Christians should focus their
life and faith on the return of Christ, according to the German Protestant
Bishop Gerhard Maier, Stuttgart. “Soon we will face God.
Are we prepared ?” asked Maier at the annual meeting of the German
Indian Pioneer Mission in Remshalden near Stuttgart.
He emphasized that it is wrong to try and calculate the date of Christ’s
return. But many biblical prophecies point to important developments in the
world’s history, such as the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948.
These signs made it clear that Christ’s return is near, said Maier.
He rejected the allegation that the anticipation of the
judgment day is a threatening message. On the contrary – it is good
news, because the world will be liberated from evil, he said. Maier, 67,
is an outspoken evangelical theologian.
He was chairman of the mission before he assumed his position as Bishop of the
Lutheran Church of Wuerttemberg three years ago. The mission is active in
Paraguay, Brazil and Germany. It is a member of the Association of Evangelical
Missions in Germany.

In view of these facts, should I try to set aside more time for the study of the Word of God, and more time for the study of History and the true history of the Christian Church, and to learn about how other Christians in the past, actually learned to have and to gain GREAT and genuine spiritual strength ?
If no one reaches out to help prepare me for the coming challenges, whose job is it STILL for me to be prepared to answer these challenges and questions ?
