Purpose Driven Church Disasters

Responding to Purpose Driven - Useful Steps for PDC affected families and church members

The question is whether or not the process of PCL/PDL should be resisted.

If you really have others in your church that are like minded, and who understand the problem, or if you are willing to take a public stand and be very pro-active - then it might be worth considering.

But many church members either do not have friends who share their concern, or do not think that enough church members will respond.

The question to be answered is where and when a Christian needs to stand up for truth, whether it is recognized as such or not.

The next question is how to identify those who will work with you. Some churches go through church splits, some go through public confrontations, and some churches have church members that leave to form a different congregation but send a letter to others explaining the problem (after having confronted the Pastor and having received either no response or an unresponsive reply).

The point is that this issue (PDL/PDC) may be a wedge to serve as a means [ for you] to identify those who truly care about doctrine and church leadership and sound theology, and those who care far less about sound doctrine, than they do about church demographics. Church members will have to evaluate for themselves whether or not this process is a tool that can be used to reveal to them who their real friends are and are not, and who are the ones who share a higher commitment to God, than to their local Church "club".

[Yes, its our premise that those who are willing to NOT proclaim Any controversial doctrines on Sunday are giving up in large measure the proclamation of the Word of God.( In this day and age, anything is controversial, whether it truly is or not)  ].

(and for the churches that only use PDC materials but are not affected by Warren consultants, they are not really part of this issue...for now)(but they will be when the pastor sends for those consultants).

PDC consultants are doing a very good job...of teaching pastors...how to run a church which is an "official church"...[structure but no substance] like the ones that used to exist in old soviet countries.

Responding to Purpose Driven - Useful Steps for PDC affected families

Useful Steps

Many churches will be affected by this. Warren group figures put the number of church pastors that they have contact with as being Above sixty-thousand.

But much can be done by believing Christians who are close to God if this happens to your church:

1. Remember, your church situation may be a surprise to you but not to God

2. Your growth and the spiritual growth of your family rests with the Bible, NOT with PDL/PDC material

3. Be conscious to take actions toward pro-active alternatives to increase your own Spiritual Discerment.
if you have children, help them memorize verses about the importance of sound doctrine and being faithful to God, and having courage in tough situations.

4. Take time to pray- about this.
The strength of a christian believe is rooted in their prayer life. Christians who pray long are christians who stay strong. (Ok that sounds a bit too easy...but you get the picture). The fact is that Prayer and knowing the Bible are what the Lord has equiped us with...for the spiritual battle.

5. If your Bible version has no power, switch versions. (see our section on Bible Versions for more info).

6. Understand that regardless of how fast the Warren process is applied to your church, that this does not mean that you or your family are lost. (thankfully, church attendance has nothing to do with salvation). But how fast a church may convert to the Warren process, can serve as a spiritual barometer of the spiritual state of the leaders of the church. That may be revealing, about whether or not that Church is the right place for you.

7. If you have signed covenants that commit you to silence, Break them. The message of the Gospel is Not to be constrained, and anything contrary is to be disregarded. (and if you have copies of documents or contracts, keep them and/or make copies).

7b.
IF you have not turned back in either covenants or contracts with your signed name or personal data about you back to the "church", DO NOT turn them back in. That information is NOT going to your church, and it is not going to Stay in your church. It is going to a different computer center....

8. If you have friends whom you know are in spiritual danger, try to find the facts to back up your arguments, study and evaluate the material carefully, pray about it, and then share your concerns with them. They may reject you and/or your message, or they may express their own concerns.

9. Don't presume that because you are not sure which direction to take, that there is no direction for you to move towards. If you are unsure of what to do, then make a prayer list of your worries and concerns about this, and pray about this.

10. Use the situation to steady yourself spiritually. Decide that whatever the outcome to others, that the outcome for you is that you will ask the Lord to help you use the situation as an opportunity to grow in strength and closeness to HIM. Then try and read a book that is relevant, or set aside a bit of extra time, or do something additional - to help your spiritual life - that you would not have done prior to this situation. IN other words, be sure that you take steps to take away the victory of the spiritual enemy - that they otherwise would be trying to have in your life.

11. IF you have close friends who are involved, pray actively for them by name. Spiritual issues are won spiritually, and the Lord responds to prayer. Prayer changes things (just consult the books about George Muller and his ministry to orphans for the proof). Pray for your friends involved in this situation, both before you talk with them, and after.

Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
