Spiritual Recovery
Spiritual Dilemmas and the road to recovery and Truth - Part II
Let's review - quickly - the previous point made - Here is what was stated:
******************************************************************************
When a Pastor reads the words of the Bible, he knows what his obligation is: his obligation is to convey to his audience (those in the church) the content of those words in the Bible, the application of those words, the Truth of those words, and the Experiential reality of those words.
Here they are again:
the content of those words in the Bible,
the application of those words,
the Truth of those words, and
the Experiential reality of those words.
The problem is that first of all many pastors can no longer do this, since they do not study their Bibles long enough to do this. And second, they teach, but they cannot personally testify to the truth of the words in the Bible or the Experiential Reality of the Bible Passages.
******************************************************************************
The question is what is happening to a person as they are reading their Bible ?
It sounds almost so obvious as to be stupid, but actually it is not obvious.
1) a person has to have an accurate Bible
2) a person has to actually pick it up and read it
3) a person has to WANT to have relationship with God
4) a person has to Know that this relationship must be developed THROUGH the Bible
(we just lost some readers here at this point - who do not understand this)
5) a person has to know that God responds to them
6) a person has to know that God has guidelines for evaluating those who are serious about pursuing Him and those who are Not serious, and that He evaluates us on that basis
7) a person has to be willing to engage God through personal prayer, and to learn to pray and develop an active prayer life.
8) a person has to be willing to be patient, and learn to NOT depend on their own feelings.
9) a person has to know that they can find encouragement and strength from learning about the lives of other Christians who came before them, and found the strength of God and the peace of God, and that studying the lives of real Christians has merit, reward, personal applications to each of us that can be discovered, and often can help us realize additional ways to know and understand God.
We hope to address these points in the near future
