Question

Did the Council of Nicea "decide" which books were to be in the New Testament Cannon ? or did it - instead - only recognize the Books of the New Testament that had already been recognized as sacred, holy and inspired scriptures ?

The Council of Nicea met in 325 A.D, assembled at the command of the Roman Emperor Constantine, and met to address the heresies of a man whose name was Arius.

The Council of Nicea did NOT actually make the original decision about which books were to be part of the Bible. What the councils did do was no so much decide, as AGREE with what had already been decided by the Apostles and was already in practice in the churches all over the world.

The Roman Catholic Church would have you believe that all local churches and congregations were in chaos and all having all sorts of books in their churches and considering them as scripture, being deceived until Three Hundred Years Later in 325 A.D., the Catholic Church finally gets it right comes in and restores order.

In other words, Jesus would have cared about His Church "so much"… that he would have neglected it for 300 years, until He finally could get his own act together, and inspire men to meet together in a council supervised by a pagan worshipping Emperor. But that is not what happened.

The Church - the True Church of Jesus Christ composed of independent Bible-preaching congregations - had been in operation ever since the Disciples of Christ, and had spent DECADES spreading the word of Jesus Christ through the New Testament books...for all of their lives.

The Catholic Church was not even around, and Early Christianity was flourishing. It was flourishing so much that in dozens of places of the Roman Empire, Christians were building underground cities called catacombs...in order to survive the persecutions that Satan was inspiring and directing through the Roman Emperors.


In the eyes of the Catholic Church Hierarchy, You would think that "they" were the solution to all the problems. The truth is – when one looks at the historical documents - the Catholic Church was the Problem, to the true and scriptural solutions that Jesus Christ had given to his Disciples.

Remember at the time of the Council of Nicea that the Roman Catholic Church Hierarchy did Not yet exist. It did not have that little piece of real estate yet in the Vatican until after 325 A.D. It was after the Council of Nicea that the Emperor set up the Catholic Church.

When the Council of Nicea assembled, who assembled it and called it...since the Catholic Church did not exist ?

Answer: the Imperial Decree of the Roman Emperor Constantine summoned that council. And it was composed not of Catholic Church Bishops (as they Catholic Church Hierarchy likes to state) but of Independent Bible Believing Pastors.

Since the Catholic Church did not exist, then from where would those Bishops and Pastors at the Council of Nicea have derived their moral and Biblical authority ?

There was no central authority ! They derived their authority from their own independent local Bible Believing congregations. And the Church [meaning the collection of local independent Bible Congregations] was functioning quite well without the interference from Rome.

But the Roman Emperor Constantine who worshipped the Sun God knew that he was having trouble gaining legitimacy amongst Christians. He craved this and sought out Eusebius to see how to make this happen. Eusebius suggested a council of all of the Independent Christian Churches within the Roman Empire, and Constantine agreed.

But we are getting a bit off the track...the point is that

1) the Church Councils did not "decide" the Cannon of the Bible, they rather AFFIRMED/CONFIRMED the Cannon.

2) the books known as the Apocrypha were NOT accepted as part of Scripture.

3) the history of the Catholic Church is that the longer she continues, the greater her heresies become. She continues to accumulate untruth as time progresses.

The more that the Catholic Church continues in time,the greater her reliance on apocryphal books. It Had to be that way, because the 66 books of the regular and true Bible in no way justified the doctrines that the Catholic Church was teaching.

4) for this reason, the Roman Catholic Church has tried to uphold the supposed Cannonicity of the Apocrypha. They did not succeed in doing this until the Council of Trent, when they finally came out and said that the books of the Apocrypha would be treated as Holy Scripture itself. That was a DEPARTURE from the historical books of the Bible, and a departure from history, and a departure from treating the Apocryphal books as Not being part of the Canon of Scripture. In other words, 1500 years after Jesus Died (and rose again), the Roman Catholic Church decided to change which books should be included in the Bible. 

Fortunately for us, the Bible continues to be true, despite the teachings of Rome. It was independent Bible Churches and congregations that the Holy Spirit acted through in order to preserve his Holy Word. God values ordinary people and works through them. We see this over and over in the Old and New Testament.

God entrusted his church to its head, Jesus Christ, and the day to day operations to the Holy Spirit indwelling all those who trust fully in the message of Jesus Christ and nothing else. Those believers are the ones who preserved his word.

Christian Conversions - According to the Bible - Can NEVER be forced.

Any Conversion to Christianity which would be "Forced" would NOT be recognized by God. It is in His True and KIND nature, that those who come to Him and choose to believe in Him, must come to Him OF THEIR OWN FREE WILL.



Don't Let anyone tell you that Christians support Forced Conversions.
