Scofield Never Agreed with Westcott and Hort

Some of you are coming here, being misled about Scofield.

Students of History (of which there are not enough) should know that something is "wrong", when a website attempts to link the Theological Contradictory camps of 1. Westcott & Hort and 2. C.I. Scofield.

Once the argument linking these two groups is distilled, what it boils down to is the following:

1. Westcott and Hort worked at Cambridge (& at Oxford)

2. Scofield was able to have Oxford University publish the King James Bible with his notes At the University of Oxford.

3. Therefore, there is a link between the theology or worldview of 1. Westcott & Hort and 2. C.I. Scofield.

The problem with this conclusion is that it is ENTIRELY wrong, and based on faulty reasoning.

When we begin to think through the presumptions of that theory, it is not hard to understand how mistaken that view is.

I. Westcott and Hort worked for all of their life to Undermine the legitimacy of the King James Bible.

Scofield worked all of his life to uphold and defend the legitimacy of the King James Bible.

II. Westcott and Hort worked for all of their life to Undermine the legitimacy of the Protestant Reformation and protestant doctrines.

Scofield worked all of his life to uphold and defend the legitimacy of the Protestant doctrines of the Reformation, and went further in establishing Seminaries (in Pennsylvania and Texas) for the purpose of defending historic Protestant theology

III. Westcott and Hort both affirmed their own personal belief in the worship of Mary and in prayer to Her.

Scofield worked all of his life to uphold and defend the doctrine of ONE MEDIATOR between God and Man, who is CHRIST JESUS.

IV. Westcott and Hort worked all of their life to destroy the Underlying Greek New Testament of Protestant Bibles, and to replace the Greek Textus Receptus with Codex Vaticanus and Sinaiticus (as they state in their own books).

Scofield worked all of his life to uphold and defend the Greek Textus Receptus New Testament, and surrounded himself with Other mainstream Historic Protestant Theologians who ALSO defended the historic Greek Textus Receptus New Testament.

V. The Books of Westcott and Hort are filled with references and allusions to the Ancient Mystery religions and their attempt to portray those views theologically - as positive (through their defense of Neo-Platonism, which is today known as theosophy).

Scofield in his books (he wrote 10 books) defends the traditional historic CONDEMNATION of Occult systems of worship knowing them to be only clever illusions designed to draw people away from God and towards Satan. In addition, the Notes of Scofield in the Old Testament make it VERY CLEAR that the Bible condemns the occult and occult practices.

VI. The works of Westcott and Hort make it clear that they DENIED a literal belief in the spiritual Fall of man (Sin Nature), and his born state of eternal separation from God.

The Notes of C.I. Scofield in Genesis and Romans make it clear that Scofield affirmed the doctrines of the Bible: man is born with a Sin Nature, and only the shed blood of Jesus Christ - through his death and resurrection - can grant Eternal Salvation to anyone who chooses to become a Christian (someone who is saved having believed the teachings of Jesus Christ).

In order to understand Westcott and Hort, we have to understand what was going on in the Anglican Church during their lifetime.

Many people simply think that the Protestant Reformation is something that happened in the 1500s and 1600s, and then the issue was settled. After that, the Anglican Church (Official Church of England) remained Protestant, and there was no more theological problems or controversy.

But that is Not the case.

Yes, the Protestant Reformation happened in the 1500s and 1600s. But After that came something called the Counter-Reformation. This is when the Vatican made even more efforts to persecute those who disagreed with its views.

In the nations that were Roman Catholic, it was illegal to believe anything else except official Roman Catholic Doctrine.

But in the nations where Roman Catholicism did not have political power, the Vatican simply worked to theologically undermine Protestant Doctrine, and Historic Doctrines that contradicted the power of the Vatican.

That trend - of undermining the doctrines of others - continued in England - AFTER the Protestant Reformation.

In England, certain Roman Catholics had themselves ordained as official Chaplains, Bishops and Archbishops within the Protestant Church of England. Once they were within the Anglican Church, they began to work to convert and take over the Church of England.

They did not succeed in OFFICIALLY changing the doctrines of the Anglican Church, but many many teachers of Roman Catholic Doctrines found help, comfort, assistance and encouragement within the Anglican Church.

This movement was so widespread that more than Two Thousand ANGLICAN Church Leaders defected to the positions of Adhering (agreeing & teachings) the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church, while remaining officially Anglican and working in the Anglican Church.

THAT - is what was taking place...in the 1800s in England, in the Anglican Church during the lifetimes of Westcott and Hort.

Westcott and Hort were trained at Cambridge. But their professors and fellow students were easily led astray into denying the doctrines of the Protestant Reformation. By the time that Westcott and Hort were at Cambridge, it was already becoming known for two schools of doctrines:

1. A knowledge and cultivation of the occult (the deliberate attempt to contact demonic spirits), and

2. Roman Catholic Doctrines teaching that salvation was only possible through the Eucharist and belonging to the Roman Catholic Church.

The movement WITHIN the Anglican Church was led by a Anglican Bishop named Pusey. The attempt to seduce and cause the Anglican Church to Convert to Roman Catholic Doctrines was called "Puseyism".

The movement also had another name. It was the attempts of the Pusey-ists to convert others using Tracts...to Roman Catholicism. For this reason, the movement to alter Anglican Theology & Doctrines in order to agree with the Vatican and Roman Catholic teachings...was also called the "Tractarian" movement.

Please remember what was taking place in England at the Time. England ruled the world as the Empire of Great Britain. England was the center of that empire and, London was the center of England.

Administrators and armies of Civil Servants were constantly being posted to foreign lands and returned with many stories, many adventures, and many new doctrines and teachings.

The impact of these foreign theologies and foreign teachings were very detrimental to England and to Spirituality in general, in England. The Anglican Church was almost entirely overrun by Roman Catholics, and by occultists. Occultists had a long history within the British Empire, and were entrenched within British Elite Society, something which has remained true to this day.

The Occultists formed Secret Societies in the 1800s in England, and worked to get their own students into positions of Power. This is what was taking place in England when Westcott and Hort were working at the center of the British Empire.

Westcott and Hort accepted the False teachings of their occult instructors. Later on, they also accepted the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and the worship of Mary.

Westcott and Hort wrongly believed that the Protestant Church had come to many false conclusions. They accepted to believe this because they did not know enough about history. They also did not know enough about Greek, but they decided to work with many German Textual Critics.

German Textual Critics were 'Officially" protestants who had decided that the Bible was FALSE. [Those Textual Critics HAD to be Protestant, or they could not obtain teaching positions in German Protestant seminaries and Universities...so those Textual Critics simply lied and were given their jobs as professors.]

Working with German Textual Critics and their Newly invented false Greek Manuscripts (such as those of Lachmann and Tischendorf), Westcott and Hort came up with their own plan to change and alter the Greek New Testament.

They succeeded - both in their own Greek New Testament, and in their creation, the Revised Version of the Bible.

(Yes this means that Westcott and Hort produced TWO Bibles, the one in Greek AND the one in English. And Yes, that is what they did).

Let's NOT loose track of the main points that brought you to this page. Here is the argument that was originally presented:

1. Westcott and Hort worked at Cambridge (& at Oxford)

2. Scofield was able to have Oxford University publish the King James Bible with his notes At the University of Oxford.

3. Therefore, there is a link between the theology or worldview of 1. Westcott & Hort and 2. C.I. Scofield.

Hopefully - by now - we can start to understand how Wrong this view was.

Westcott and Hort worked in the 1870s (and earlier) on their Greek New Testament. This was released officially to the public in 1881.

[ (in 1882 - one year later, the Ghostly Guild - founded by Westcott & Hort - went Public and was formally re-founded as the Society for Psychical Research). The purpose of the Ghostly Guild was to recruit members of the British Establishment into the Occult. The purpose of the Society for Psychic Research was to recruit the general public to accept occult teachings and disembodied spirits as having a SUPERIOR revelation to the Bible. In other words, by founding the Society for Psychic Research and the Ghostly Guild, both of these groups were designed to Undermine the Bible and Christianity. ]

Here is the response to the above arguments about Westcott and Hort and Scofield:

1. Westcott and Hort worked AGAINST Scofield, NOT with him.

2. Westcott and Hort appointed an American commission for their new Fake Bible, But Scofield worked AGAINST it!

(The American Commission was formed to publicize the Wescott and Hort version of the Bible, which they renamed - in the U.S. - the American Standard Version, which officially appeared in 1901 in the U.S.)

3. Scofield COULD have worked FOR Westcott and Hort, but chose instead to defend the King James Bible, which is what Protestants had used for Hundreds of years.

4. When Westcott and Hort worked at Cambridge was the time period of 1850s to 1870s.

5. When Scofield was asked to have his notes produced at Oxford around 1904, that was more than THIRTY YEARS LATER.

(Even though Oxford was also corrupted, the Anglicans were smart enough to recognize that Scofield was the Continuation of standard Mainstream Evangelical Protestant theology, and they wanted to be sure that they would have a share of the market for Bible sales).

6. There is NO link between Westcott and Hort and C.I.Scofield

7. The works and doctrines defended by C.I. Scofield CONTRADICT the false and occult teachings of Westcott and Hort.

The Reason for the Attempt to confuse the public

into believing - mistakenly - that Scofield had ties to Westcott & Hort

The Problem is that many FALSE teachers today recognize that Scofield STILL has a great deal of influence. And as long as the teachings of the Bible and the teachings of Scofield exist through the Scofield Study Bible, these false teachings will have trouble convincing the public of wrong doctrines.

These false teachers know that Westcott and Hort have been exposed as FALSE TEACHERS.

Westcott and Hort have been exposed Historically, as being historically wrong.

Westcott and Hort have been exposed Theologically, as being theologically wrong.

Westcott and Hort have been exposed Textually, as knowingly relying on false Greek Manuscripts.

The Intention of the False teachers was to link A. Scofield with B. Westcott and Hort.

After all, if Westcott and Hort were bad, and Scofield "worked" with Westcott and Hort (which is false), then Scofield would be understood to be "bad" also.

The reason why False Teachers are making the Attempt to tie the teachings of Westcott and Hort with the [Contradictory] doctrines of the Protestant Reformation upheld by C.I. Scofield - is in order to deceive many many people.

Protestant teachings are undergoing a very great change today. Protestant teachings are moving AWAY from the historic positions of Christianity and the Church and are instead changing into the False Teachings which are taking place today - during the time period in which we live - called the "End Times".

But there are many preachers and teachers - who are FALSE teachers - who do not want to line up their views with the Bible. Because of their resistance to Biblical teaching, they have fallen prey to another gospel, a different gospel, a false gospel.

The result of this acceptance of deception and false teaching is called the great "Falling away". The Bible teaches that this will happen prior to the return of Christ for his church.

Many teachers have been misled into taking a Amillenial position. An Amillenial position usually holds to the perspective that 1. The Rapture will not take place, and 2. We are already in or we are about to usher in the 1000 Year Reign of Christ, by ourselves.

The Denial of the Rapture and the Assertion of the Millenial Kingdom of God are views which go together.

What makes both of these unique to this time-period is the concept that we can compel and force God to do what We want Him to do. This makes God subservient to Our will.

The teaching of making God subservient to the Will of man is a wrong teaching.

But there are more and more false teachers who are advocating this position. Their goal is to force everyone into a system either of A. Salvation by works or B. Sanctification by works.

The goal of these teachers is to put pressure on everyone in order to force them to WANT to work for the kingdom of these false teachers, while believing (mistakenly) that we need to do Physical labor for the religious leaders, in order to demonstrate service or obedience to God.

Those views - (which are basically "soft shepherding") - are false teachings.

The Position called Preterism advocates that we can usher in the Millennial Reign of Christ by ourselves and our good works. Then once religious people have taken over, then God will come back to rule and to reign.

It would be inconsequential if GOD were the one who brought this about, on his own timetable, and without the efforts of Men. The problem is that many false teachers are attempting to place themselves as the leaders of this FALSE movement, in order to gain more followers in an attempt to personally enrich themselves and gain political power.

The attempt to teach these positions - as being part of historic Christianity - is totally Un-Christian. It is a False Gospel. Those are FALSE teachings. They are designed to Mislead and to do spiritual harm to those who embrace those views.

But many Religious people are not true Christians, and many are so empty inside of themselves, that they agree to these teachings, in the hope that God will be pleased with their good works.

But That will not be the case, because God is only pleased with those who believe instead that God is a rewarder of those who Diligently seek Him. Many of those who accept and believe those false teachings refuse the Grace of God and refuse the GIFT of eternal Salvation by Faith alone in Christ Jesus (plus nothing).

Many of those who accept false teachings want to attempt to save themselves by their own good works.

Westcott and Hort were Amillenialists. Westcott and Hort denied Original Sin and they also denied the Rapture.

Instead they accepted a theology that despised and rejected Historic Biblical and Protestant Doctrines, and instead affirmed salvation by Good works.

Westcott and Hort also make it clear that they that they thought that Christianity had gone off course. That however- did not actually happen. God is able to safegard His own teachings and doctrines.

God was also able to protect His followers and to give them an accurate Bible.

Westcott and Hort rejected this, choosing instead to believe the teachings of Origen who maintained that Jesus was a created being, and denying his Pre-Existence as a member of the Trinity. That is the position of Origen, and that is ALSO the position of those who use the manuscripts of Origen, such as Codex Vaticanus.

We hope that those who read this will study the Scofield Bible and historic Protestant Christianity, which is the view opposite to Westcott and Hort.

By now you probably have guessed. the Website that brought some of you here (Historicist.com) is Amillenial.

Though "exposing" Westcott and Hort [Using the material of our website and others] - their real goal is to attack Scofield and Zionism (Zionism is the Biblical idea that the Jews should have a Homeland in Israel, Nothing more nothing less).

They use the teachings of Westcott and Hort in order to accuse Scofield. But their real goal is to mislead you into rejecting the historic teachings of Scofield and the Protestant Reformation, and instead to affirm their own Anti-Rapture Amillenial false doctrines.

Do I understand that most of these new Modern Versions were not developed because there was a genuine need, but because the teams of Bible Translators were Hired by PUBLISHING companies who are eager to make a profit on the Word of God, which remains the Number ONE bestseller every week of every year, and that these Publishers decided to cash in ?

Do I understand that the problem was that if these Bible Adjusters and Correctors did NOT make the changes that they chose to, that they would not be able to claim copyright protection, and therefore they would not be able to make a financial Profit from their new versions ?

Do I understand that there are Spiritual Forces that want to prevent me from having GREATER spiritual understanding about God, but that God himself is always in MORE of a hurry than I am, for Me to get to know HIM ?

Do I realize what my personal state of preparation will be, within me, when Islam becomes the Dominant Religion in the United States, as it is already in Europe, and how I will personally be required to defend my Faith, by argument and persuasion, using knowledge of the Bible and of History and of Christianity, and that God will rightly hold me accountable because I am claiming to be His Child and a personal follower of Jesus Christ ?

In view of these facts, should I try to set aside more time for the study of the Word of God, and more time for the study of History and the true history of the Christian Church, and to learn about how other Christians in the past, actually learned to have and to gain GREAT spiritual strength ?

If no one reaches out to help prepare me for the coming challenges, whose job is it STILL for me to be prepared to answer these challenges and questions ?
